THE FINAL SENSATION VOLUNTEER DAY
Sensation announced their very last event in Amsterdam. On Saturday July 8th 2017 ‘The Final’ Sensation will take place in the Amsterdam ArenA. But not until our VIPS have taken part in this legendary party. That’s why 10.000HOURS & Sensation organized the Sensation Volunteer Day, for the very last time. And we went out with a bang!
For the very last time, about 60 youngsters with special needs (we call them VIPS) arrived in style at the Warehouse Elementenstraat, which was transformed by our volunteers into a Sensation area. A final ‘white’ make-up and glitter touchup at the entrance and the day was on! For all the creatives, there was a huge table with creative supplies. Our VIPS decorated white t-shirts, hats and disco balls. Meanwhile, there was at DJ workshop giving by the Amsterdam PRO DJ school. Other VIPS were busy re-engaging their dance qualities together with Pzia the choreographer of Sensation and the volunteers.
Confessions of a bartender
In daily life volunteer João is oral hygienist in training. “Usually, I don’t meet youngsters with special needs. During my internship not long ago I first came into contact with them. Today, I’m here to lower my threshold and connect with them”. And it certainly worked out. At the Volunteer Day João worked as a bartender and like every bartender, at the end of the day he knew all the secrets of the VIPS.
The party is on!
By the end of the afternoon the party started! DJ JAX.X turned on the best beats and the VIPS showed off their best smooth moves. Hands in the air, dance battles and even a real polonaise took place.
As a grand finale the VIP DJ’s turned the tables. VIP Soumiya: “Spectacular. I never expected to be on stage and closed down the party with an amazing set. A dream come true!”
Things end, but memories last forever
Ellen Evers (Sensation) looks happy towards the crowd. “Sensation finds it important to give everyone a chance to have the ultimate Sensation experience. It’s moving to see how incredibly happy the VIPS are today. You can see it in their eyes: they shine. Unfortunately Sensations ends and so does this annual Volunteer Day. But the memories last forever”.
